Exploring Racism at CPR, “By Any Means Necessary”

May 30th, 2014  |  Published in Uncategorized

“By Any Means Necessary” at the Cleveland Print Room runs from June 13 through July 26.

In its first exhibition of the summer, the Cleveland Print Room hosts By Any Means Necessary: Observations, Experiences, Perpetuations of Racism. The show will feature the work of four photographers: Donald Black Jr., Gabriel Gonzalez, Teresa Martinez and Chris Mason.

Racism — \’rā-,si-zəm\ — is defined as a “belief or doctrine that inherent differences exist among the various human races’ cultural or individual achievements.”

What does racism mean to you? The Cleveland Print Room is exploring a multitude of meanings on this uncomfortable topic with this show, the opening weekend of which will also feature an artist panel to discuss racism and all its dimensions.

“We hope the show will reflect how the dynamic nature of racial discourse leads to new ways of defining racism, as artists seek ways of presenting their everyday struggles involving racism as an evolving concept,” said Shari Wilkins, Cleveland Print Room’s founder and director.

By Any Means Necessary opens with a reception from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 13. A gallery talk featuring the Artist Panel is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 14.

For more information on Cleveland Print Room and membership, visit their website or check out their Facebook page.

Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day

April 24th, 2014  |  Published in Uncategorized

Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day is an international annual event created to promote and celebrate the art of pinhole photography, held each year on the last Sunday in April.

On this unique day, people throughout the world are encouraged to take some time off from the increasingly technological world we live in and participate in the simple act of making a pinhole photograph, and to share their visions and help spread the unusual beauty of this historical photographic process.

At Cleveland Print Room, as you know, we love pinhole photography, and present pinhole workshops throughout the year. This will be our second year of participating in the Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day celebrations, and you can come join in the fun at this month’s Pinhole Photography workshop.

Come build a camera, take a picture, upload your photo to the Worldwide Pinhole Photo Day website’s gallery and experience the fun of this unique form of photography — no experience necessary!

Cost for the workshop is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Prepaid registration is necessary. Please contact Shari at info@clevelandprintroom.com or call (216) 401-5981 to sign up.
